Hi! My name is Greta Carlson, and I am the new Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry at Morning Star Lutheran Church. I’m excited to build community and relationships in this place.
I moved to Omaha in 2017 as part of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps where I worked at a nonprofit and lived with housemates in the same volunteer program. I really loved living in Omaha and decided to stay, so here I am!
I grew up in Victoria, TX, a small-ish town in South Texas, with my mom, dad, and little brother. We also had a little terrier named Rough and a cat named Boots.
In school and at church I always loved music! Starting in 6th grade I started playing the French Horn in band, and played for 10 years, all the way through college!
Many of my favorite childhood memories happened at summer camp where I got to swim in a lake, sing fun songs, play lots of games, and go hiking.
When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut with my best friend. We wanted to fly through space!
In my free time I like to visit Lauritzen Gardens, play with my cats Winston and Sully, and do puzzles.
I attended Texas Lutheran University and studied Social Entrepreneurship, which covered the practical side of running a nonprofit and the philosophy and practice of how social change works. In college I was also able to spend a semester studying abroad in Namibia, which opened my heart for social justice.
I am still getting to know Morning Star and the community, which also includes you! As it becomes safer, I’ll be getting more involved with the preschool students and reaching out to families.
A blessing for students:
May the one who creates little bodies and minds
Bless your body and keep it well
Bless your minds to learn and grow
Bless your hands to care and give
Bless your caretakers to have peace and wisdom
May it be so.
